What’s ‘PicInspire’ all about ?
Well ! Just to reiterate the inspiration behind these pictures, which I had started posting on 26 Jun 2018 is that ……..
Nature’s signals are plentiful in daily life and only require us to pause, observe and learn. The “PicInspire Series” is a collection of amateur photography based ‘original photographs’ with inspirational captions/ quotes/ messages.
Journey well …. enjoy the view and ride !!
The ‘message creation’ involves efforts to search ‘a meaning as close and appropriate to’ the image captured.

We all come across umpteen inspirational stuff and at most times it’s a kind of a jig saw puzzle. The picture isn’t complete until we combine all the parts. Don you must, the Sherlock Holmes hat …. Lo and behold ! the picture (or message) unfolds. Off late, I have been sensitive to observing these dots and dashes bombarding me over and over again – As if to get my attention to notice them. So I did !
The first was a quote, as usual in the wee hours of the morning on a Whats App, Human Resources Team group we formed …. “A dot becomes a line, a line becomes a shape, shapes become patterns, patterns become art work. One must always remember to start at the pure basics. In the end, you’ll end up with a masterpiece … !” – Cettina Raccuia. The message caught my rapt attention and I simply loved it, though it didn’t display the originator’s name. The ‘Quote Appeal’ – Simple words, extremely powerful and an ultimate in motivation. I shared it further through the day only to receive numerous likes and appreciation. Something as well had started brewing by now within the space between my ears …… !! To ensure upholding the ‘credits etiquette’, I Googled the quote to locate it’s originator and author, who I found to be an eminent resident of Australia. The search was mandatory, as the quote had motivated me to write this article and I am indebted to her for the trigger. The internet has really shrunk the world …. Wow !
Secondly, the ‘dot and dashes’ related quote on that day reminded me of a startling revelation or a kind of awakening I experienced years ago. I fail to recollect the exact details but faintly remember it to be a conversation connected to making certain financial investments …. and that too timely in life ! The visiting sales agent caught my attention as he drew a long line saying …. Sir this depicts our entire lifetime. He remarked, let’s put the milestones as dots. First one for ‘your birth’, thereafter ‘completion of your schooling’, next ‘graduation’, then your ‘job’, obviously your ‘marriage’, your ‘child’, his ‘schooling’, his ‘graduation’, his ……… and he handed me the pen now. I thought it’s my turn to place the milestone dots. Well, to my surprise he hit me hard on that day – He respectfully uttered, ‘Sir, kindly put a ‘dot’ as to … When will it be, that you shall die’ ? My hand which had be rising to put a dot eagerly, screeched to a “deadly” halt. I was dumbfounded … absolutely ! The ‘dot’ he wanted me to mark – as we all know is the greatest mystery of life ! Taken positively, it really makes you value “time” in life. I cannot mention the benefit of the financial investment made that day but his ‘investment related example’ remains embedded as a reality/ humility check in my head since. I am sure, I finally did make a wonderful investment that day – though not a financial one alone ! The essence of the lesson learnt relating to the line and dots was magical in many ways.
Finally, whilst a young officer in the Submarine Arm, I was nominated to undertake a ‘Specialist Communicator’ course, basically akin to a Radio Communicator (Merchant Mariner lingo !). However, besides the routine radio theory and procedures, there was an awesome lot we studied in military terms relating to fleet work, electronic warfare, cryptography, etc.. The ‘dots (Di) and dashes (Dah) ‘ study also emerged in learning subjects called ‘Flashing’ and ‘Semaphore’. Basically, the ‘Morse Code’ language of ‘dots and dashes’ to send messages via strong projector lamps, semaphore flags and the electronic radio sets using radio telegraphy. The method of messaging learnt and skills acquired continues to fascinate me to this day. A basic and simple looking language of dots and dashes is actually a time tested and highly reliable backbone for routine operations, safety, survival and mitigating emergencies.
Well, noticeably the computers too, as we know are based on binary code – a ‘0’ and a ‘1’ which relates to a state of being either ‘on’ or ‘off’. Comparable to an ECG machine screen, in which an ‘on’ (being alive) is a dot or blip which signifies the pulse and the ‘off’ a line (meaning a goodbye !). Basically, these so very simple looking dots and lines, if seen intimately unveil a hidden message – An immensely valuable one at that !
In the ‘quote’ above, it nicely takes you through motivation to realise your full potential. In the ‘investment example’, it highlights the need to remain grounded and humble as you aspire to reach/ realise your dreams. The ‘morse code’, ‘computer’ and ‘ECG machine’ all portray the potential of combining them to communicate not only simple messages, states or analytical data but a deep rooted philosophy of life !
Well then, isn’t it is actually about the art work and the masterpiece after all ? – How we join our ‘dots’ and draw our ‘lines’?! I keep learning from keen observation and so was inspired to share my lessons. Hoping, that I have have hit the ‘dot’ as I draw the ‘line’ on this article.
Well ! ….. that’s BEST WISHES in ‘dots’ and ‘lines’ … Take care !

Interviewer : Hi Santa ! Overjoyed to have you at our studio. Welcome and a Merry Christmas.
Santa : Merry Christmas Son …. Ho Ho Ho !
Interviewer : You are well known the world over Santa … Nevertheless, would just like to throw a few basic questions for the benefit of our listeners. May I Sir ?
Santa : Well snow balls eh ! Son ? Shoot … Ho Ho !
Interviewer : Where do you live Santa … They say up at the North Pole ?
Santa : Hmmmmm …. well ! Seems a premium residential location, isn’t it ? To share a truth I actually reside where people respect the ‘spirit of life’, it’s a place where I find “life, love and laughter”.
Interviewer : But, but … you are only seen in December ?
Santa : Well it’s all up to you folks ! Actually, there is never a restriction to celebrate “life” ! Isn’t it Young man ?
Interviewer : That’s deep ! Wow Santa. You know, kids believe in you however, when we grow up … eh ! we realise you are a story … Oops apologies ! I really apologize, you know what I mean Santa ? ….. Parents hiding the gifts, trying not to get noticed, the Surpriiiiiiise !! ….. and then we all grow up, etc., etc. !!?
Santa : Ho ! …..that’s a snow ball Son … a really cold one huh ? Ho ! Ho ! My belly tickles Ho ! You know Son, it doesn’t matter what you realise when you grow up. Believe me I am there, only that you got to look and look real hard. You people like me to visit in December, so you notice. I celebrate the spirit of life and goodness 24×7. The season’s change, so you do not notice. You like red, white and black and those are seen in the colder months. I do my bit through other good people, through every season. Well in simplified terms, like you call it – “Secret Santa” you have got to notice your’s !! Ho ! Ho !
Interviewer : You melted that snow ball Santa. I realise your presence. Thanks ! …. that’s valuable information indeed. What’s then with all that gifts stuff ? Good deeds round the clock to qualify for one ? Why is it so Santa ?
Santa : Oh simple …. You never reward anyone for a bad deed. By the way, even if one who commits a bad deed and receives a gift or benefits, the person feels guilty and miserable sooner or later. It hurts him/ her in the long run. So it is the “good deed” which is rewarded and that is final and universal too !
Interviewer : Hmmmmm … Logical and fair indeed ! Okay Santa, what’s the best gift one can ever give ?
Santa : Come on Son ! You know this … Ho ! Ho ! Ho ! Don’t you ? Anyways, I will spell it out for you – It’s “Time”, “Your Time” for constructively contributing towards life and this world as well as the people around you. You know it …. there isn’t anything as precious or valuable. When you show you have ‘time’ for others, then your gift is automatically wrapped with ‘concern, love and respect’. Well, in today’s world where you all live – It’s feel like a challenge dear, doesn’t it ? Well ask me … It really isn’t ! You may befool others but not the Old Santa. Ho ! Ho ! Ha ! Ha !
Interviewer : Agree ! Santa. Thanks. How do you the explain the effect of online websites, couriers and the digital age comfort related outsourcing effects on your good work in December or round the year like you mentioned ?
Santa : Yup ! Another snow ball umm Son ?!! Well you can reach out with today’s technology, I agree Son. However, introspect are you all really “reaching out” ? ‘Instant gratification’ like I notice may seem good, but nothing, nothing at all Son, can replace the “human touch”. Well, how you can touch the lives of others can be learnt yourself – by observing what really makes one happy. You know it, there’s really a helluva’ lot of difference – ‘when you take a cake from an online store’ and ‘when you bake it yourself’ for gifting. Your real love and efforts are evident in only one ! ‘Cakes’ may be forgotten but the ‘concern’ lingers for long. Ho ! Ho ! Ho ! ….. and importantly don’t lose out on those great skills my child, if you all can really understand.
Interviewer : Santa what’s your take on these resolutions we make for the New Year ?
Santa : Hey Son, loosen up ! Don’t stress yourselves ! It’s always good to make resolutions. In fact, any time of the year is good for doing so. Resolutions culminate into rewards or gifts you give yourself – So be realistic, stick to it with all your heart and importantly be patient with yourself. Remember, if you cannot do the big things right away, do the small and important things in a big way. All will surely be well ! Rejoice your every successful change for the positives in life. Oh ! … I hear the bells of Rudolf beckoning me as I have to get on Son. So best wishes and ring in your “New Year” with confidence and joy …..Ho ! Ho ! Ho!
Interviewer : Thanks Santa …. We really love you !
Santa : So long Son ! God Bless you all and see you around.
Be passionate, not possessive of your dreams,
Down the ages “wisdom” it must seem.
For changing situations, throw challenges unseen,
Dust you may almost bite or lose your sheen !
Rise bravely, for the past – you must forget,
It’s ‘Life’s breath’ which indicates, not all’s lost yet.
Calm your soul of every defeat, anguish or pain,
Trust … “Life’s magical ways” will echo time and again !
